Welcome to the World of Rose Gardening or Rose Gardening World.  We are here to educate you about The Rose – our National Floral Emblem and the state flower of several states. Roses have been around for millions of years which just prove that Roses are easy plants to grow contrary to popular belief. We are constantly updating our contents so visit Rose Gardening World often.  We want to help you grow beautiful roses and we welcome comments.  Take time and smell the roses and Happy Rose Gardening!

Baron Girod de l’Ain is an unusual rose and is a sport of ‘Eugene Furst’ and belongs to the Hybrid Perpetual class.  The blooms are large, bright crimson, sweetly scented, double flowers, and complemented with leathery dark green leaves and reasonably healthy.  Baron Girod de l’Ain has a very decorative flower with petal irregularly scalloped and rimmed with white on its cupped flower.  It is quite beautiful.  It opens cupped, with a ragged looking petal edges and as it matures, the outer petal curves outside while the inner petal stays cupped.  This vigorous bush has an upright habit, sometimes with arching canes with plenty of stout thorns and the flowers repeat throughout the season.  It deserves a place in your garden for its novelty.  Plant it in the perennial bed next to silver foliage plants and purple flowers to accentuate its exotic and unique qualities.

With Christmas coming, would it be nice to have some red roses incorporated in your home decoration for the holiday.  A red rose conjures of love and Christmas is certainly a season of love.

O, my Luve’s like a red, red rose,
That’s newly sprung in June.
O, my Luve’s like a melodie
That’ sweetly play’d in tune.

As fair as thou, my bonnie lass,
So deep in love am I;
And I will love thee still, my dear,
Till a’ the seas gang dry.

Till a’ the seas gang dry, my dear,
And the rocks melt wi’ the sun:
I will love thee still, my dear,
Thile the sands o’ life shall run:

And fare thee well, my only luve!
And fare thee weel a while!
And I will come again, my luve,
Tho’ it ware ten thousand mile.

           Olympiad was the official rose of the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles.  It was also the winner of the All America Rose Selection Award in 1984 and the Gold Medal Portland Award in 1985.  Olympiad is one of the best red hybrid teas as a bedding rose for gardeners and an excellent source for cut flower.  The blooms come usually singly on long stems.  Olympiad has good repeat throughout the season.  The long pointed buds unfurl to double (35 to 40 petals), large (4 – 5 inches across), high-centered brilliant clear red flowers with a mild fragrance.  Very thorny stems bear medium green, semi-glossy foliage with medium red new growth.  Olympiad is a tall (4 to 6 ft with a spread of 3 to 4 ft.) upright, compact rose plant.  Disease resistance is generally good but if you have a problem with black spot in your area, it is advisable to take preventive measures.  If only Olympiad had a strong fragrance, it could be a perfect rose.
