Rose Event - 4th Annual Rose Lover’s Gathering

The Heritage Rose Foundation announced that The North Central Florida Heritage Roses Group is sponsoring the 4th Annual Rose Lover's Gathering at Angel Gardens, l4228 NW 222 Place, Alachua, Florida on Saturday, April 14, 2012 from 11a.m. to 6 p.m.  There will lunch, raffles and more.   Besides enjoying the beautiful Angel Gardens, you’ll be treated to two well-known speakers with their informative talk about roses.

Ruth Knopf : Ruth is one of the earliest Rose Rustlers in America. She has collected Old Garden Roses for many decades, pioneering the Preservation Movement that has become a legacy for others to follow. She will be accompanied by the City of Charleston's Horticulturist, Joanne Breland.  Ruth was last year's honoree for the Great Rosarian of the World Celebration which takes place at the Huntington in LA and again in New York for her work with Noisette roses.  Ruth is a fountain of knowledge when it comes to Old Roses, and we are proud and honored to have her come.

Peggy  Martin:   Peggy travels all over the United States teaching about the easy care of Old Garden Roses.  Her namesake rose, ‘The Peggy Martin Rose,’ has been sold by the thousands to raise money to help restore gardens along the Gulf Coast after Hurricane Katrina.  “The Peggy Martin Rose” miraculously survived the floods in New Orleans.  Peggy is a member of the long-lived New Orleans Old Garden Rose Society and brings the current President, Margaret Ganier, with her to Angel Gardens.

PLANTING DAY FOR HERITAGE ROSE DISTRICT OF NEW YORK CITY

Welcome to the World of Rose Gardening or Rose Gardening World.  Take time and smell the roses.  Roses have been around for millions of years which just prove that roses are not difficult to grow. The Rose is also our National Floral Emblem and the state flower of several states.  Here at Rose Gardening World, you’ll find rose articles that will educate you about roses – its history, rose culture, rose profiles and even rose verses all in one place.  So visit Rose Gardening World often.

The next planting day for the Heritage Rose District of New York City is on Saturday, October 22, 2011 which marks the beginning of their third season.  Heritage Rose District of New York City is a joint effort between the Borough President's Office of Manhattan and the Heritage Rose Foundation to plant roses that once grew in Harlem a long, long time ago.

Since October 2009, the Heritage Rose Foundation have planted over 600 heritage roses in Harlem.  This fall event would be a kick off of the “Season of 1000 Roses” with a goal to add 1000 additional heritage roses to Harlem by April 2012.

On Oct. 22 at Trinity Church Cemetery where the project started, the Borough President would make opening remarks and Steven Scanniello, President of the Heritage Rose Foundation will speak of the mission of the project and a brief update.  A rose will be handed off to a representative from the different planting sites.  Plants will be distributed to all sites included in the autumn planting with focus on the Trinity Church Cemetery and The Church of the Intercession.

If you are interested in becoming involved, please feel free to contact Stephen Scanniello, President of Heritage Rose Foundation, with any further questions or suggestions at steprose@mac.com.
