There are gardeners and there are rosarians. Rosarians are gardeners that love and know
roses. They grow hybrid teas,
grandifloras, floribundas, miniatures and minifloras, shrubs and old garden
roses. They shop and buy roses from
catalogs around the country and local garden centers (cost no object). They visit rose gardens, large and small,
public and private, near and far. They
join rose societies, attend meetings, conventions and rose shows. They become judges and consulting
rosarians.
Rosarians buy books and magazines dedicated to rose care
and they can’t get enough of them. They
take photos and slides of roses. They
buy rose pictures and adorn their homes with rose arts. They have curtains with roses and upholster
their chairs with fabric with rose designs.
They make and buy rose jewelry. They
make tea, jelly and potpourri. Some of
them even eat rose hips. They dry roses,
paint them and give them to others. They
write rose poems and sing rose songs. They
name events like “The Rose Bowl” and “The Rose Parade”. They have even made the rose our national
flower. They name their children and
pets with rose names (Rose, Rosemary, Rosemarie, Roseanne).
Rosarians plant, they prune, they feed, they protect and
they nurture their roses like their children.
They wait, they watch and finally they rejoice at the very first bud of
the season. They love to share their
roses and their gardens with everyone.
They are the most friendly and nicest group of people you’ll meet.
