THE MANHATTAN ROSE SOCIETY PRESENTS A PROGRAM ON CHINA ROSES

Welcome to the World of Rose Gardening or Rose Gardening World.  Take time and smell the roses.  Roses have been around for millions of years which just prove that roses are not difficult to grow. The Rose is also our National Floral Emblem and the state flower of several states.  Here at Rose Gardening World, you’ll find rose articles that will educate you about roses – its history, rose culture, rose profiles and even rose verses all in one place.  So visit Rose Gardening World often.

The Manhattan Rose Society will hold a dinner and power point program presentation by Dr. Wang Guoliang on "The Ancient Roses in Chinese Song Dynasty (1000 years ago)" on Wednesday, October 19, 2011, 6:00pm at Opia, 130 East 57th St., New York, NY.  $60.00 per person, Members & Guests.  Space is limited so make your reservations early.  You can register online, with a credit card at www.manhattanrosesociety.org.

Dr. Wang Guoliang is a professor at the Forestry Academy of Jiangsu Province, China. He has done extensive research for 30 years with concentration on roses of Chinese origin.  He has worked with Dr. Yoshihire Ueda of the University of Chiba, Japan on “diversity and utilization of roses”, placing emphasis on roses of Chinese origin.  This research was conducted utilizing genetic analysis.

Dr. Wang has traveled extensively in China in search of rare roses and he has shared this research in his recently published article, “Rare Chinese Rose Species and Ancient Cultivars” that appears in “Mystery Roses From Around the World”, a new publication of The Heritage Rose Foundation.  It is a wonderful article detailing his research and the photography is outstanding.  The book will be available for sale at the dinner.
