HOT PRINCESS ROSE

Hot Princess rose is a very rich deep pink Hybrid Tea hybridized by Hans Jurgen Evers and introduced by Rosen-Tantau/Tantau Roses of Germany in 2000.  The blooms are hot pink, exhibition form, high-centered borne mostly singly on long stems.  The petal substance is so thick, it can withstand an occasional hot weather though it fares better in early spring and fall.   It blooms in flushes throughout the season.  Foliage is dark green, shiny and leathery.

Hot Princess rose is a tall plant, can grow 4’-6’ ft and bushy, very vigorous usually sending up a basal or two every year.  It is an excellent garden rose and florists love them too for its perfect form and long stems.  Hot Princess rose has slight fragrance.

Hot Princess rose is a must have for rose show exhibitors.  It has everything a top exhibitor could wish for - its deep pink blooms with lovely spiral centers on long stems.  The color of the blooms is stunning.   Hot Princess rose has won plenty of Queens of Show awards.  Hot Princess rose is an excellent candidate for most sought after “Queen of Show” and is now ranked among the top 10 in the nation’s show roses.

ROSES IN ART - IMPRESSIONS OF THE MASTERS, SERIES I

The rose has been revered for millions of years as a symbol of love and beauty and has been an inspiration to poets and painters.  Empress Josephine (1763-1814), wife of Napoleon was so enamored by them, she commissioned Pierre Redoute to paint them from her garden at Malmaison in France and immortalized in his book ‘Les Roses’ (1817-1824).

Throughout the centuries, artists had chosen the Rose, the Queen of Flowers, as the subject of their art.  Artists use roses in their painting either as a single specimen, in a bouquet of flowers or in the landscape.  Manet’s Roses in a Champagne Glass only portrayed roses.  A calendar engraving by H. Fletcher in 1731 for the month of May contained a bouquet of different flowers.  The list includes Cinnamon Rose and Yellow Austrian Rose.  During the Baroque period, painters included the rose in their landscape painting.

In the early days of Christianity, the rose fell out of favor because of its association with pagan rituals but later on became the symbol of the Blessed Virgin Mary as the “Mystical Rose”.  The Christian mystics referred to the five petals of the red rose with the five wounds of Christ.  Later beautiful stained glass rose windows adorned the great cathedrals of Europe.  The famous Wilton Diptych, c. 1395 depicted a double rose on the two painted panels.  Also the millefleur tapestry known as The Hunting of the Unicorn, c. 1500 shows more than 100 flowers including centifolia roses.

The Middle Ages ends between the fourteenth and the sixteenth centuries and then the Western world entered a new era called the Renaissance.  Fifteenth century artists engaged in painting allegorical or mythical subject matters with roses incorporated into the landscape.  Renaissance painter Sandro Botticelli (1444-1510), a favorite of the Medici, Florence’s ruling family painted the famous painting, The Birth of Venus, c. 1480-1485 and Primavera c. 1482 featuring the rose.

Primavera

Venus at the center of the painting surrounded by Cupid above her, Mercury and the Three Graces to her right, Zephyrus to her right chasing the nymph Chloris and Flora who was scattering rose petals on the lawn.  In another famous painting of Botticelli, The Birth of Venus, c. 1480-1485, the rose was also featured.

CHERRY PARFAIT

(Meidanu x Macman) x Meichoiju
Hybridizer - Meilland

Cherry Parfait is a beautiful red and white, bi-colored grandiflora hybridized by Meilland International in 2001 and introduced by Conard-Pyle.   Cherry Parfait blooms with the white petals edged in red stand out both in the garden and in the vase.  The blooms are pointed, medium size, about 4 inches in diameter with a petal count of 35-40 with a slight fragrance.  As her large, perfectly formed, exhibition-style blooms open up, a phenomenon called phototropism changes the white pigments in the petals to pink and red along the edges.  This happens as the petals are exposed to the ultraviolet rays of the sun.  This phenomenon can be quite stunning.  After the blooms open up, they slowly change to all pink as they age.  Soon, they are replaced by numerous other bi-colored blooms

Cherry Parfait is a low-growing rose with a rounded growth habit.  It's vigorous and can grow up to five feet tall and 4 feet wide.  Its dark green glossy foliage with long, straight stems is highly disease-resistant.    She thrives in high temperatures during the long, summer months but needs winter protection to protect her from the high winter winds.   This attractive bi-color rose is very attractive throughout the season and very floriferous.  Due to its stunning coloration accentuated by dark foliage, Cherry Parfait is an excellent choice for mass planting.  Plant it in your front yard for people to see its eye-catching color.  Cherry Parfait makes a great companion plant for perennials and is also an excellent container plant.

Cherry Parfait is the 2003 Grandiflora winner of the All-American Rose Selections (AARS) award.  Cherry Parfait with its showy bi-colored petals is always a treat for the eyes.  Inspite of its slight fragrance, sometimes none at all, I still recommend you try Cherry Parfait.  You won't be disappointed.
